Author: Lt. Cmdr. Maak
Scene: Maak's Quarters, USS Independence
Time: Current
--------------------------------
Maak sat in the dark amidst his newly arrived luggage and personal effects, all still unpacked except for his robe which he had dug out and was wearing for comfort.

It was an ancient gaudy thing, embroidered with fine wires of gold pressed latinum depicting a scene from the life of Kahless the Unforgettable.

None of his wives had ever liked it.

He took a deep swill from his very very last for real this time last bottle of juHmaak bloodwine, actually made from the blood of enemies of his Grandfather Korg (Uncle Ron still told the story sometimes).

Never having anticipated the luxury of a real view port into space he sat mesmerized by the dance of the All Seeing Stars.

Maak had never been a religious man at all though he had studied Klingon spirituality deeply and could access the levels of consciousness as well as any formal adept.

The sight of the stars however had always held Klingons in awe, filling their two hearts with an awe unspeakable.

The Stars saw everything.

The Klingon swung about on his chair and activated the Com panel.

[Maak! You ARE alive! Do you have any idea how hard it is to track down a completely classified person? Very much so I can tell you.]

The strong Yiddish accent was plenty for Maak to not even look at the identity of the sender and he switched on video.

"Rabbi Leibowitz! You made it out of Arcadia just fine I see. Sorry I lost track of you there, it was a bit chaotic."

[Like Moses I was Maak. I got the entire congregation out. Such kevetching you've never heard in your life!]

"You're amazing Rabbi. You know I was just sitting here thinking..."

[About God.]

The Rabbi said firmly and confidently, stroking his beard in satisfaction at knowing his old friend so well.

"Now now, lets not get into it, Saul, I have no scotch to share with you for that sort of conversation. No I still do not believe in Deity. I was looking at the Stars."

The human man shrugged and gestured towards the heavens, his palms turned upward.

[Same thing.]

"Perhaps."

Maak conceded and sipped his wine, swinging the view screen so the Rabbi could see the view he was seeing.

They sat in silence for a good 5 minutes, burning up perfectly good subspace communication time saying nothing.

[Are you happy, Maak?]

The Klingon furrowed his shaggy red brows.

[Dont make a face, are you happy?]

Maak turned the viewscreen back to look his friend in the eyes.

"You know Rabbi? I think I just might be. Might."

[Good people there?]

"Fine Saul. Just fine."

[Excellent.]

They sat together for another 10 minutes or so in their respective reveries.

[Well I should go I suppose.]

"Thank you for the visit old friend. I miss our talks."

[Whats to miss? Here we are. And of course, the stars are there too. Look closely Maak, you can see a face maybe.]

Maak grunted.

[Blessings upon you good sir. See you soon.]

"Soon."

Maak sighed and returned his gaze to the firmament.

*Happy. Maybe.*
