Title:The Core of the Problem
Author:Commander Salvek
Scene: Deck 15 (Main Computer Core)
Time: After The Spider and The Hornet's Nest
"Captain Zanh, the virus has been isolated." Xhian was pleased to report."We still need to be rid of it though," Kellyn warned."I know!" Salvek snapped, but then he drew a deep breath and appeared to regain his composure. "I am working it." he continued, in a soft but foreboding tone of voice.
"Yes sir," Kellyn mumbled under her breath so only Xhian could hear. Salvek worked on the computer panel in the isolated section of the computer core. After a few minutes Xhian offered his assistance.
"May I help you, Commander?"
Salvek did not answer him and a moment later, yanked an isolinear chip out of the computer core.
"The virus, Ensign." Salvek declared, handing him the chip. "See to it this is turned over to Commander N'Dura, she will no doubt wish to study it further." Salvek pulled a second chip out of the core.
"What is that one for, Salvek?" asked Kellyn.
"A copy for Starfleet Command. They will no doubt be conducting their own investigation."
"Xhian to Captain Zanh."
[Go ahead Ensign.]
"We have removed the virus from the core entirely. We have isolated the virus in two isolinear chips, one for security and one for Starfleet Command."
[Well done, all of you. Bring me one of those chips. We'll get the virus into Starfleet's hands on Trill.]
"Yes Captain, Xhian out."
Salvek placed his hand on Xhian's shoulder. "I know you played a large part in assisting the Captain while my family and I were unaware of what was happening on the holodeck. I owe you a debt of gratitude. If anything had happened to my wife or daughter..." Salvek's voice trailed off.
Xhian nodded, and saw what appeared to be a tear in the corner of Salvek's eye. "Not a problem, sir. Are you all right?"
Kellyn placed her arm around Salvek, leading him towards the exit.
"He'll be okay, he just needs some rest. As do you Ensign. Get some rest before your next shift. That's an order. And thank you again, you did great."
